Attorney Profile

Peter M. Macy, Esq.Peter Macy

Peter M. Macy received his law degree from Boston College Law School in 1991, having served as a student law clerk during part of that time for the late Judge Lavien at the United States Bankruptcy Court in Boston. He worked for two years after graduation in litigation, and then left to begin specializing in elder law at Greater Boston Elder Legal Services. One year later, Mr. Macy opened his private elder law practice in Newton, Massachusetts. He has continued to practice in elder law, serving the needs of seniors and their families, since that time.

In 2003, Mr. Macy joined Weston Patrick, a professional association of independent law practices in Boston that has existed since 1897. While known for many practice areas, Weston Patrick is especially well-regarded in the area of trust law and administration. Its lawyers manage substantial assets in private trusts.

Mr. Macy has been a speaker on elder law topics throughout Eastern Massachusetts since 1994. He has served as guest lecturer at Suffolk University Law School and Boston College School of Social Work on Medicaid issues, as well as the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (a program on Medicaid liens and estate recovery, February, 2000), Suffolk Law School Advanced Legal Studies Program, "Elder Law Institute V," (topics on authority of guardians and conservators, March, 1999), and the National Business Institute Seminar, "Elder Law: Taking Control of the Planning Process" (1994, 1996 and 1999). Mr. Macy also speaks to community and professional groups about both Medicaid and guardianship topics. He is available to groups seeking speakers or information on those subjects.

Mr. Macy's article, Medicaid Planning After OBRA-93: Placing the Home in a Revocable Trust, was published in 79 Massachusetts Law Review 2 (March, 1994). More recently, he co-authored Special Needs Trusts Administration Manual: A Guide for Trustees, which is published by iUniverse.

Prior to his career as a lawyer, Mr. Macy received degrees in counseling psychology from Harvard Divinity School and Harvard Graduate School of Education. He worked for a number of years in the counseling field before turning to law.
